In 1980 President Ferdinand Marcos issued Presidential Proclamation No. 2037 proclaiming the date as both Mothers Day and Fathers Day. In 1988 President Corazon Aquino issued Presidential Proclamation No. 266, changing Mothers Day to the second Sunday of May, and Fathers Day to the third Sunday of June, discontinuing the traditional date.
